Yarb Land

Yarb is the dialectal form of the word herb used by Ozark Hill Folk. We are sisters who grew up in the Ozarks. These hills are our home and we tend to land in NWArkanas, on Osage Territory. Yarb. Land. is where we grow and craft bioregional herbal medicine, host herbal workshops and community events. We also have virtual offerings as well as herbal consultations focused on flower essence therapy and nervous system support.

Intentional Sourcing

How and where plants are grown make a big difference in the quality of product as well as making steps towards dismantling these larger systems which are not sustainable. All herbs we use within our practice are organically grown on the Yarb Farm, ethically wildcrafted or grown by a small-scale herb farm within the US. We whole-heartedly plant, grow, harvest, bottle, label by hand. We strive to make our herbal medicines accessible while upholding sourcing values. All of our base materials such as alcohol, oils, etc are all organic and sourced as carefully and responsibly as possible. We use recycled and sustainable packaging to ship all products.

Herbalist Formulated

We craft bioregional herbal medicine using both clinical and folk methods. Following the vitalist tradition, we use a holistic lens to understand the person and the plant to make potent and effective remedies. Our education is a life-long endeavor and we have completed the Vitalist Herbal Practitioner & Alchemical Herbalism programs through the School of Evolutionary Herbalism, participated in many herbal workshops and have over a decade of study and personal practice.

Ecological Intimacy

Ecological Intimacy is at the root of our medicine making, workshops, community events, and approach to land tending. Our devotion to this type of work comes from the earth holding us throughout the healing process of our own deep grief. When approaching the land with reverence and fostering a reciprocal relationship we are woven into a greater story of belonging. The plants are our ancestors who act as a bridge to the unseen realms to deepen our intuition and root into place. This kinship guides us to understand the interdependence between human and non-human. May we hold the complexities of our wounded past and be in service to the liberation of all beings and authentic forms of inclusiveness.

Yarb - Ancestral Thread & Rooting in Place

Yarb is an extension of our heart and has become our way of creating what we desire in this world. Using the word Yarb is not to romanticize and return to the problematic past. Rather a gesture of orienting toward a sense of belonging to place and weaving a connective thread to our past ancestors who like many Ozarkers come from the Scottish/English border. It is our belief to truly connect to this land is to acknowledge the wounding of our genocidal past of indigenous peoples, as well as, actively participating in reparations and lifting up indigenous voices. The land we call home and where we grow and make medicine is on unceded Osage territory. A Yarb Doctor's treatments were a mixture of their own folk traditions with indigenous knowledge. From our own studies of folklorists, Vance Randoplh and Mary Parlor, is how we learned about Yarb. Also, our friend Brandon Weston is keeping the folklore traditions alive through their books, teaching, and practice.
